002 || [Text; Backdated to yesterday!]

Today is Sirius's birthday but he in a coma. Makes me worry that we just got him back but now we're lost him again. I've drawn on his face like I would have done back at Hogwarts but it didn't have the same satisfaction. Have I really grown up that much?

What I really wanted to ask is: What do you do for birthdays back home? Perhaps it could inspire me for when he wakes up.

[That earns a short laugh.] I can think of many places I'd rather be, but I might as well make the most of my time here.

Mind if I ask where? I would assume home but that could really be anywhere.

Old City. I don't suppose you've heard of the Sanctuary?

Sorry, no. I haven't. Sounds important though.

No reason to apologize. It's more important than many realize, even those who know of it's existence.

[Audio]

[identity profile] selfless-stag.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it a secret then? Or am I allowed to know? [For secrets made things very interesting.]

[Audio]

[identity profile] lifewithoutrest.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It isn't public knowledge, no. Our world simply isn't ready for that, and I have my doubts it ever will be.

We provide sanctuary for those who require it, those society wishes to eliminate, or worse, refuses to acknowledge exist. While at the same time, we protect the world from those too dangerous to be allowed freedom.

Doesn't sound much different from the home I left, actually. My people are hidden from the rest of the world. They don't believe we're real. It's interesting but at the same time, a little saddening.

Acceptance is a long and difficult road. I hold onto hope that, one day, the world will not so easily dismiss what they do not understand. It's the reason I continue to do what I do. But I don't believe I'll live to see that day.

[Audio]

[identity profile] selfless-stag.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I know I won't see it, if it ever happens. I doubt my son will either. Perhaps it never will. Which again, makes me a little sad.

But not everyone is so unwilling to see the truth. Those of us who do see it can only try to preserve the balance, and hope for the best.

Or try and change the laws set in place to protect those who wish to remain ignorant.

Something easier said than done.

[Audio]

[identity profile] selfless-stag.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Very much so. Especially when you're not only trying to show the world your power, but make those without it bow down to you.

I have an old friend who I believe would love that idea, but it's hardly effective if you hope to avoid creating more hatred.

The man I am talking about was eventually beaten and imprisoned in his own prison long before I was born. But we still learn about him in school. I believe his ideals had merit but his actions did not.

Fortunately, Nikola's plans don't have a high rate of success, and at heart, he's mostly harmless. But if you happen to meet him, I never said that. [Her smile is obvious in her voice as she talks about him. She really does have a soft spot for the vampire, despite the trouble he causes.]

[Audio]

[identity profile] selfless-stag.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Unless he's trapped here too, then I doubt I will meet him. But I'll keep that in mind all the same.

[Audio]

[identity profile] lifewithoutrest.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems he is, as I discovered several days ago. Of course, with everything else.

Still, it helps to have someone familiar.

[Audio]

[identity profile] selfless-stag.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I do meet him. Sounds like I'd have just an interesting conversation with me as yourself.

And I'll agree with you there. My girlfriend turned up not long after I did.

[Audio]

[identity profile] lifewithoutrest.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
He's certainly an interesting man. Far more interesting than myself.

Then I would say you're lucky to have someone.

[Audio]

[identity profile] selfless-stag.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Well then I have to meet him. Because you're certainly very interesting. Or at least, an interesting voice.

Yeah. I really am. She's amazing. I get to marry her.

[Audio]

[identity profile] lifewithoutrest.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
You seem rather interesting, yourself. I will warn you, Nikola can be rather trying to get along with.

I hope things turn out well for you both.

[Audio]

[identity profile] selfless-stag.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll remember that. Would mentioning you make it better or worse?

They don't but thanks for the sentiment.

[Audio]

[identity profile] lifewithoutrest.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I would like to think 'better,' but that likely depends on his mood and current focus.

[And she isn't entirely sure how to answer that, so she lets it pass.]
